As a way of increasing student comprehension and appreciation for Physics, I have started taking the lessons which I teach and putting key ideas into (mostly humorous but never inaccurate) prose. These are all "MrLaFazia.com Originals," and should be treated as such (yes, I claim the good as well as the poor writing).
Physics Poems by Mr. LaFazia:
Methodically Scientific
- First Presented 26.05.09 My very first poem of this genre, you follow Detective Sherlock Holmes and his compatriot Dr. Watson through the steps of the Scientific Method.
Energy is Boring
- First Presented 28.05.09 Harping on the fact of Energy Conservation, a student discusses what s/he has learned in science class.
Swingin' da Summah Away
- First Presented 02.06.09 A Physics student from the deep South considers pendulum motion and Energy Conservation.
Summer Days
- First Presented 04.06.09 A pre-test poem to help students relax and clear their minds (hopefully not TOO effectively).
When Push Comes to Shove
- First Presented 09.06.09 Not one of my best poems, this one tries to relate Newton's Laws of Motion to practical situations. A better one will follow further down this list (if you don't find it now, then either I have not yet written it or your standards are too high!). For now, be gracious.
An Impulsive World
- First Presented 11.06.09 Set to the song "Barbie Girl", this little ditty isn't half bad. It attempts to relate Impulse and Momentum (change in momentum) to relevant Physics concepts.
Lunacy
- First Presented 30.06.09 This is a short little ditty that takes a brief look at Moon topics...specifically looking at the theory of its eventual end (assuming nothing else were to interfer prior to that time).
Test Prayer
- First Presented 23.06.09 Set to "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep," this is a Physics student's prayer regarding a test.
Continental Drift
- First Presented 09.07.09 This poem covers the three fundamental ways in which tectonic plates interact with each other, and it looks at boundary phenomena that result from these interactions.
Goodbye Summer 2009
- First Presented 28.07.09 My goodbye poem to my PHYS111 (Conceptual Physics) students of 2009.
Round 'n' Round
- First Presented 18.06.09 Attempting to explain the basics of Circular Motion, this poem looks at commonly discussed scenarios of objects under the unbalanced influence of some center-facing Force.
Simply Shocking
- First Presented 14.07.09 Ohm's Law and other electrical and electro-statics concepts are approached in a poet manner. The importance of electrical systems, overall, is also addressed.
The Ups & Downs of Life
- First Presented 16.06.09 Motion aspects are looked at in terms of graphing and direction (vectors, specifically 1-dimensionally). Important tools such as the almighty frame-of-reference are also discussed.
